Running Accomplishments:

I started running last year, my first race was December 2008. It was my first 5k. In the past year I have done 5k's, a 5 miler, 10k, 10 miler and my first half marathon. I started running so I could keep off the weight I had lost (70 pounds). And in running, I have found solace, peace, and friendships.

Short-Term Running Goals:

 My goals for 2010 are:

*2150 total miles

*finish a walking/jogging marathon

*a 2 hour half marathon

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to take each year as it comes.

2009 goal was just to run. I did make the goal of 2000 miles. It was my first year running. I will update my total on the 31st of January.

Personal:

This past year has been frought with difficulty, trials, and stress. But it has also been a blessing. I learned what I can do, what my body can do, and how to make myself what I want to be.

My three kids have been a wonderful inspiration, and my husband, not matter how we fuss, fit or fight, is ultimately my best friend.

Did a good strong 5.25 miles this morning. 3.25 speed intervals (6.0 to 8.5 mph), and 2 miles of incline intervals. First time in a while that a morning run felt good!

I did my ride this morning. And I almost got hit by a car! I was going through a clear driveway, when a car darted out. I jamed on the brakes, but low and behold, my darling husband didn't fix the rear breaks like I've asked (my fault, I should have checked first). So I went ass over head onto the ground. No biggie until I looked up and the lady in the car was laughing. I swear she was laughing and eating a twinkie. My knees were bloodied up, my leg got caught under the bike, and my hands were scrapped up. I stood up, she was still laughing, flipped me off and drove off. I called her a couple of choice names, finished my ride and went home. My knees are fine, but I have a huge knot in my calf. I'm going to rest for a bit, I may not be able to do my second run today, if it's still hurting.  Any wonder why I'm not a people person????!!!!!

Managed to do 7.5 miles. It felt good, but the last lap, I opted out of doing the half mile hill. So, I landed at 7.5. Not bad. the bruising is really starting to develop. Its not too bad, but I'm going to ice it some more.

Wow, that is truly bizarre behavior...

I shouldn't be surprised, but around here (Boulder, CO) there are so many bicycles and runners that there are incidents of aggression and anti-bike sentiment on behalf of "motorists." Some people think that cars are the only vehicles that should be allowed on roads, period.

I have taken a lot of safety training for cycling/motorcycling, and the #1 danger zone is intersections -- and that means any type, not just 4-way stops. Driveways are especially lethal, since when people are at home they just put their brains on auto-pilot and gun it without looking.

For safety reasons (I know it may not be possible always) try to avoid intersections or driveways. Another bad one is parking lots... Just be extra aware at intersections and always be sure the coast is clear 10-15 seconds *ahead* of you while you're riding. If there's a blind spot or blind driveway, assume there IS A CAR THERE. Also assume that you are always INVISIBLE to cars (because 90% of the time you are).

Cyclists need to take extra measures to stay safe. In car vs. bike, cars win 100% of the time, so there is no room for error. Safe cycling!

Oh absolutely! I go slow at intersections, and I tend to ride after the rush hour..I'm a major wimp when it comes to biking...still very new! Thanks for the tips!

And it is odd behavior, but in this town, where the obesity rate is 65%, the twinkie in the mouth isn't!

Good grief sorry to hear about your bike accident! Do be careful with that calf! I have had experiences as a runner with unkind/unattentive motorists and more than once have had to dodge and duck so as not to get hit! Sounds like a great run this morning!
