Running Accomplishments:

I started running last year, my first race was December 2008. It was my first 5k. In the past year I have done 5k's, a 5 miler, 10k, 10 miler and my first half marathon. I started running so I could keep off the weight I had lost (70 pounds). And in running, I have found solace, peace, and friendships.

Short-Term Running Goals:

 My goals for 2010 are:

*2150 total miles

*finish a walking/jogging marathon

*a 2 hour half marathon

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to take each year as it comes.

2009 goal was just to run. I did make the goal of 2000 miles. It was my first year running. I will update my total on the 31st of January.

Personal:

This past year has been frought with difficulty, trials, and stress. But it has also been a blessing. I learned what I can do, what my body can do, and how to make myself what I want to be.

My three kids have been a wonderful inspiration, and my husband, not matter how we fuss, fit or fight, is ultimately my best friend.

Way to go on the weight loss. I'm finding that quite a few of us have lost some serious weight, so we'll help motivate you not only to run, but to keep off the weight!

Welcome to the blog! I think you are not that far away from your Boston Qualifier goal. You can already run a 5 K at a faster pace. This is a big step. 70% of running a marathon at a certain pace is in being able to run a 5 K at that pace. Or in other words, if you can go at a certain speed for longer than a mile off low training volume you can usually be trained to run a marathon at that speed.

From now on, it is a matter of aerobic conditioning, or in more simple words, getting out and putting in the distance into your legs.

I would recommend our standard approach - 6 days a week, maybe start with 5 miles a day, easy pace. Get used to that, then make it 6 miles a day, etc. Keep increasing until it is 10. Then add long runs - make one of your runs 12, 13, 14, all the way up to 20. Do not worry about speed because you already have plenty for your goal. If you are able to stick to this simple schedule without skipping runs (enemy number one of aspiring runners), or injuries (enemy number two), you should be able to get a BQ in a year.

Running Mom, Congrats on the weight loss. Even more congrats on your aerobic condtioning. This is a great way to insure a healthy life. Walter and Sasha offer some great advice. If you can continue to maintain six days while increasing and avoid injury I am sure Sasha is right you will run Boston in 2010. Keep up the great work. I am excited to read about your progress.
